Prysmcat
Hi, I'm Steph Shangraw, better known online as Prysmcat. *_ Mostly what I do is write. _* My characters and their worlds take me on trips that can be a 14K-word novella or a 400K-word serial that takes months to release. If you want to see what I write, you can find covers (my own work), blurbs, and links at ( https://prysmcat.com ). A link at the bottom will go to a post here on hey.cafe with more info on what is and is not in what I write. I do not charge a hard price for my work, for complicated reasons. Tips are appreciated but I absolutely get not being able to. Even better than money, leave me comments or a review or tell someone else about what I write. *_ There are cats _* in what I write. I have always had cats and they have always been a central part of my life. My roommate and I lost our last cat, Freya, a beautiful sleek tabby with orange highlights, in late February of 2026. She went to join the others, all rescues: Nermal, Loki, Angel, Trick-or-Treat, Cory-Bear, Roo. At this point, since we're both on ODSP (provincial disability) and that means being // way // below the poverty line, we can't adopt another cat, as desperately as I would like to. I will not take responsibility for another life if I can't be sure I can keep the promise to protect them and make sure they will always have what they need. Cats are, however, intrinsically woven into what I create as thoroughly as each became part of my heart. I support TNVR and cat rescues (along with animal rescues and wildlife rehab) without hesitation. *_ Other than that? _* I'm GenX, non-binary, autistic with more than a touch of ADHD, pagan, poly, disabled, pansexual, and a long list of other labels, most of which define me as "not part of the majority." I'm an ex-medical secretary, I graduated from a one-year vet assistant program but never got to use it, I grew up in the country and miss it but for practical reasons now live in a city, and I run a small quiet WordPress-based website for a group of friends who are more or less all upwards of 60 and not comfortable with tech. I have a roommate who is also my best friend, @indiediva who listens to me ramble about my worlds and characters, helps me work out plot points, and puts up with me. I loathe AI and all things associated with it. I detest censorship and control and bigotry, especially when they disguise themselves as benevolent protection. I will not cooperate with Age Verification. I'm not a tech type and can just about do html/css with references at hand, but I love Linux, although that is going to stop being "Mint" if they cave in on that point above. My household of two still masks and mostly isolates out of necessity and we are extremely disgusted with the world declaring openly that some lives are disposable if the alternative is inconvenience. I would like the world to please backtrack and take a different path in this dystopian mess. (Seriously, where is the writer? I want to talk to them about scale and stakes and pacing!) Do I have opinions? Oh, you'd better believe I have opinions about a whole lot of things. I do, however, try to keep them to appropriate times and places and situations. Mostly, they find their way into what I write. Which is the best way to find out anything about me! *_ Find me _* Most likely place: [Hey.Cafe](https://hey.cafe/@prysmcat) If you're not on hey.cafe yet, this link will make it easy to find me after you sign up, nothing else: [Referral link](https://hey.cafe/r/prysmcat) You can also say hi over on [Scribble Hub](https://www.scribblehub.com/profile/57217/prysmcat). I peek in often for comments and messages. If you message me on [Bluesky](https://bsky.app/profile/prysmcat.bsky.social) or [Mastodon](https://universeodon.com/@prysmcat) I'll get it and respond but I'm not normally there and it will take longer. Other places to find what I write are... currently in limbo, as of late March 2026. I'm working on it and will keep this updated! *_ Post about what I write: _* https://hey.cafe/conversation/qvuv49iu7o8yf69/this-fits-better-here-in-every-sense-than-it-does-on-my-about-page
